The Norman Barnett Languages Trust Providing grants for young people studying foreign languages
The Norman Barnett Languages Trust is a local charity which was set up by the will of the late Norman Barnett. Norman was a well known trader on Dewsbury Market with a love of foreign languages.
Who can apply?
Anyone who is resident within a five mile radius of Dewsbury Town Hall who is 24 years old or under on 31 December of the year in which the grant is awarded and who has demonstrated some ability in the study of foreign languages.
When can I apply?
We normally advertise for applications in December. We write to local schools and usually advertise for applications in The Dewsbury Reporter series of newspapers. The Trustees usually meet in February to discuss the applications they have received.

What happens to my application form? Copies are made of your application form and sent to the Trustees for them to consider. A copy of the application form is kept on our file for our records. What happens if my application is successful? You will be contacted by letter. If you have applied for assistance with a course, we may ask you to provide confirmation of your place on the course. Payment is made by cheque. What happens if my application is not successful?
You will be contacted by letter with an explanation as to why your application was not successful.
